BattleRap.com spoke with KOTD founder Organik about the importance of proper brand management within the sport of Battle Rap, and he offered crucial advice to help battlers gain a better business understanding in order to generate more money. Organik doesn’t feel as though many battlers have a good sense of how to utilize their value to gain money and notoriety in other avenues of business.
“Your brand is worth money and that’s something these battle rappers don’t take advantage of,” Organik told BattleRap.com. “You gotta understand when you’re paying for these rappers you’re paying for a brand.”
Organik also touched on the inclusion of pay-per-view and how it’s helped to bring in more money and expand the budgets for many of the big events that KOTD holds on their platform. He recalled being cautious about getting involved with PPV initially, and how it took him years to finally give it a try.
“It took us about 3-4 years. I was very skeptical on it at first, because you know the content that you create and everything, you know, we didn’t really know how to tackle the bootlegging issue. Not only that, [but to] a lot of the rappers at that point when battle rap first spawned, views were dollars.”
